The game Flappy Bird became a hit in 4 weeks, but apparently that was enough time to persuade creator, Dong Nguyen, to delete the simple game that took a turn in “ruining” his life.
Even though Flappy Bird peaked 4 weeks ago, it was actually released on May 24, 2013 in the Apple Store and around January 30, 2014 in Google Play Store. In those few weeks, Flappy Bird became the talk of Colonia High School.
Apparently the game is addictive according to source, Raquel Cardeo, “Once you start you can’t put it down. It’s mesmerizing.”
Though this game may be enjoyable it certainly does have its cons. When this game first came out it wasn’t much of a popular game like Candy Crush or Temple Run. It started out as a little project, a little development. A little game made to entertain little people. But after a week or two it became a hit. Player after player dug their fingers deeper and deeper into the screen.
At first Nguyen didn’t think much of this and just assumed that people really like his game; but when people started getting a bit over obsessive, that is when Dong realized what he had created. With teen boys and girls getting in trouble for playing Flappy Bird in class or not doing the dishes, the game took a very strange toll. Nguyen tried to ignore this problem but when he was getting money he didn’t want and hate that was not necessary, he knew that Flappy Bird needed to go down. But was it going to be temporary or permanent?
There was silence as Dong made his choice. Flappy Bird had to come to an end…forever. Would this be the end of the world or much needed relief?
“I think that this is great news. No more annoying players that only care about flapping their way between these stupid green poles and no more annoying sounds from phones,” states Kaylee Rudnik.
“I think it’s a little bit sad to be honest, but it’s not a big deal for me,” explained Cardeo.
But not to worry Flappy Bird fans. If you have the game installed on your phone, you can still play it to your heart’s content. But if you don’t then you can just steal your friend’s cell and play all day.
As Dong Nguyen says his final words on how Flappy Bird came with “unexpected consequences” and “too much pressure,” Flappy Bird was then taken down in the month of February. So if everybody can take their hats off and press them to your chests and give a moment of silence for Flappy Bird.
Nguyen said his final goodbyes from Flappy Bird over Twitter which saddened and angered his players. But according to Dong, it had to be done. So goodbye Flappy Bird. Rest in Peace.
